Terry Kellar reportedly won an amateur championship in Utah in 1905 (Oakland Tribune, Feb. 1908). Per T. S. Andrews World's Sporting Annual Record Books (1915), p. 220, Kellar "won 27 contests as an amateur in Utah, winning the lightweight, welterweight and middleweight championships."
He started his professional boxing career around 1907, when he was 17, under the guidance of Cyclone Johnny Thompson, and by July 1910 he reportedly had some 28 victories under his belt. [8] (See also, career record up to July 1910, from the Ogden Standard: [9].)
Kellar was one of Jack Dempsey's sparring partners for his upcoming title bout with Jess Willard in 1919. [10] Kellar and Dempsey had a few fights together during their careers. (They were scheduled for a July 2, 1920 6-round exhibition in Denver. [11]). They also appeared together in the 1920 movie serial Daredevil Jack. [12]
