According to his obituary, Terry Mitchell was born in Baltimore, but his family moved to Pittsburgh and then to Brooklyn. As a boxer, he was a great crowd-pleaser. His hobby was drawing and he was sometimes called "The Boxing Cartoonist." After retirement, he lived at 241 Front Street in Brooklyn, and operated a tavern at 140 Sands Street. He was last seen in his restaurant on April 12, 1951, and was reported missing by his son on April 14. His body was found in Upper Bay (between Brooklyn and northern New Jersey), cause of death not known when the obituary was printed.
Mitchell was in military service from 1916 to 1920.
