Tex O'Rourke was ballyhooed as another White Hope heavyweight boxer of the 1910s. His real name was John Wallis Smith.
He had been born Feb. 21, 1890, on a ranch in Midland County, Texas. He became involved in various sports, and gave boxing exhibitions at fairs--making enough money to enter law school. [1]
It is unknown whether he ever actually became a professional boxer, as BoxRec.com has not documented any bouts for him, so far.
