"Amos (Big Train) Lincoln, 205, from Portland, Ore., scored a stunning upset last night when he knocked out Thad Spencer, 192, Pasadena, Calif., in the 9th round of a scheduled 10-rounder at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. The 9th-ranked Spencer, a 2-1 favorite, was on his feet but dazed and groggy when referee Dick Young stopped the contest at 1:51 of the 9th. Lincoln staggered his opponent with a solid left-right combination to the head in the 7th round and Spencer barely remained on his feet throughout the remainder of the stanza. Another left-right combination rocked Spencer in the 9th to prompt Young's decision. Spencer had taken an early lead before running into the 9th round knockout." -United Press International
