Thor Erik Hognro lost to Werner Mundt by TKO in round 6 of 8
- Date: 1967-02-11
- Location: Ostseehalle, Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
On short notice Norwegian middleweight novice Thor Erik Hognerud with a 3-1-0 record traveled to Kiel to fight the strong German Werner Mundt ( 17-2-2 ). Mundt had been knocked out the year before by top contenders Jo Gonzales of France and the Swedish berserk Bo Hogberg.
The blond Norwegian, a body builder besides being a boxer, had an impressive physique, but was no match for Mundt when it came to technical mastery. Hognerud however made a good fight. Never for a moment did the fight look like the ugly mismatch it could have been. Hognerud went down twice in the 5th for 8 counts. In the 6th round he was down again and the towel came flying in. The crowd showed sympathy for the underdog's bravery.
