Per the June 13, 1927 TACOMA NEWS TRIBUNE, Roberts -- otherwise known as Thunderbolt Smith and Otha Mabion -- had been arrested for suspicion of stealing a watch. Because of his criminal record, he faced a life sentence in prison as an "habitual criminal." He had been convicted in 1915 in Kansas City, in April 1915 in King County (Washington), and in Sept. 1925 in Grays Harbor (Washington). The outcome of his June 1927 arrest is unknown.
