Tiger Jack Fox 174 lbs beat Al Gainer 171 lbs by UD in round 15 of 15

"Tiger Jack Fox from Spokane, gained a shot at the light heavyweight championship last night by outpointing Al Gainer of New Haven, Conn., in 15 mauling rounds at the Bronx Coliseum. Fox belted his negro rival with enough hooks from each hand to win by a convincing margin. Although Gainer scored with a short left brought from a half-uppercut position, both fighters relied mainly on hooks to pile up points. Fox connected early, and by the 6th round he had raised a welt under Gainer's right eye with solid left hooks. He kept sharp-shooting at this target until at the end of the fight Gainer's eye was just about closed tight." -Associated Press

  • With this win, Fox was now scheduled to fight Melio Bettina for the vacant NYSAC light heavyweight championship. The NYSAC stripped John Henry Lewis of their recognition for his failure to defend against Fox. Lewis retained 175 lb. recognition of the NBA.
