Tommy Loughran 186 lbs beat Ernie Schaaf 190 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1929-05-24
- Location: Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA
"Tommy Loughran, light heavyweight champion, today appeared to rank himself as a serious contender for higher fistic honors as a result of his victory over Ernie Schaaf of Boston. Loughran's wonderful left jab kept the Bostonian far enough off-balance to prevent him from landing a knockout punch. Schaaf centered on the champion's body during the early rounds and succeeded in landing many stiff punches. These were hard enough to redden Loughran's body but they failed to prevent the latter from ripping in his vicious left. Loughran was in difficulty only in the 4th and 10th rounds. In the final round Loughran appeared in danger. Instead of holding, however, the champion lashed out so furiously that Schaaf was unable to aim his left on a vital spot. Schaaf appeared impressive, even in defeat." -Associated Press
