By March 1947 Rodgers, of Pittsburgh, PA, USA, was a 20-year-old one-armed Harvard University junior who had won the 155-pound university boxing title by a TKO-2 win over Somersby Dowst. He had lost his arm in a train wreck. A photo of him can be found in the March 28, 1947 Tacoma News Tribune (Tacoma, WA, USA) newspaper.
