"Unbeaten jr. middleweight contender Tony Ayala, Jr. scored a unanimous decision over Curtis Ramsey in a 10-round bout at Will Rogers Coliseum here Saturday night. Ramsey lived up to his nickname of 'The Razor' by opening a cut over Ayala's right eye with a combination left and right near the end of the 5th. Charged with a low blow in the 6th, Ayala came back to score to the body in the 7th. Ramsey claimed another low blow in that round and referee Spider Bynum advised Ayala to get his punches up during the middle of the round. The 9th saw Ayala down Ramsey for a six-count, setting the stage for a battering ram finale. Ayala was almost able to put Ramsey away twice before the latter retaliated with a pair of lefts and rights to the head. Ayala, however, ended strongly with a left and a pair of rights to the body as the bell sounded." -Associated Press
