"An aggressive Tony Chiaverini won a unanimous 10-round decision Friday night against Chilean middleweight champion Renato Garcia at Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium. The first rounds of the fight appeared to be nearly even. Both fighters started cautiously but by the 3rd round Chiaverini was more in control of the fight, scoring with body punches each time he got Garcia on the ropes. In the 6th, Chiaverini had Garcia on the ropes three times, scoring each time, with Garcia being warned for holding. In the 7th, Chiaverini had Garcia clearly in trouble. He stunned Garcia and appeared to have a chance to knock him out, but hurt his right hand in the 7th, with the middle knuckle swollen after the fight." -Associated Press
