Tony Licata soundly decisioned challenger Vinny Curto to defend his USBA Middleweight Title.
Licata used his superior reach and speed effectively throughout the fight. Curto appeared content to let Licata come to him and then clinch in the corner. Licata started slowly, but after the fourth round began shooting a series of combinations to Curto's head. Curto landed solid right hands to Licata's head in the sixth, seventh, and ninth rounds, but he concentrated his attack on Licata's body. Licata hit Curto in the sixth round with a combination of punches that opened up a small cut under his left eye. Curto retaliated with just 30 seconds left, opening a large cut of Licata's left eye with his head.
