Tony Mundine 160 lbs beat Lonnie Harris 158 lbs by TKO in round 5 of 10
- Date: 1972-12-08
- Location: Milton Tennis Courts, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
- Referee: Des Crabbe
"Commonwealth middleweight champion Tony Mundine moved another step closer to a world title fight tonight when he knocked out American Lonnie Harris in the 5th round of their fight at the Milton tennis courts in Brisbane. The knockout followed a surprise warning to Mundine mid-way through round four for hitting low. Harris appeared to be shaken up by the blow and both boxers went back to their corners for the remainder of the round. After the compulsory one-minute rest between rounds, Mundine came out for the 5th and displayed aggression he had not shown earlier in the fight. He had Harris in trouble almost immediately, forcing him into a corner with a flurry of lefts and rights. Harris, unable to protect himself, slumped to the canvas and Brisbane referee Des Crabbe counted him out." -The Canberra Times
Post fight comment
- "I got a bit fed up after the foul, so I let him have it. As for the foul, Harris should expect to get hit like that when he bends so low. He should stand up and fight." -Tony Mundine
