Tony Sibson 160 lbs beat Dwight Davison 160 lbs by UD in round 12 of 12

"On Sunday, Tony Sibson of England won a unanimous 12 round decision over Dwight Davison of the United States. A partisan crowd of about 9,000 cheered Sibson to victory over the No. 1 ranked contender. Davison's counter-punching seemed to have made it a close affair, but Sibson's tremendous aggression left the judges in no doubt. Sibson took the initiative early, hooking fiercely at every opportunity. Sibson looked strong throughout, although Davison had a good 10th round, highlighted by a pile-driver left-hander, which visibly shook Sibson." -United Press International

  • Both fighters were guaranteed $100,000 apiece for this bout.

Post fight comments

  • "He packs a really good shot and he hurt me with a really good blow, although his head coming down and catching me was more of a problem." -Tony Sibson
  • "There were no complaints about the verdict although I didn't agree with the width of the judges scoring." -Carl King, Davison's manager.
  • "Sibson deserves a shot at my title. But there is no way I will come to England again. I'd like the fight to be on neutral ground, outside the U.S. and outside England. I won't fight him in London and I won't go to Birmingham. But I'd like to fight." -Marvin Hagler, accepting Sibson's challenge for the title.
