"Tony Zale, NBA middleweight champion, won on a TKO from Tony (Cianciola) Martin of Milwaukee in the 8th round of their scheduled 10 round non-title bout here today. Martin was leading in points through the 6th round, on the scorecard of referee Ted Jameson. Zale opened a deep gash over the Milwaukee boy's eye in the 7th and the referee stopped the fight between the 7th and 8th rounds when the eye swelled shut." -Associated Press
