According to a column by Frank Roche in the January 27, 1932 edition of the Los Angeles Times on Newspapers.com, there was going to be a two-day amateur championship tournament at the Olympic Auditorium beginning on January 27, 1932. A number of promising amateur boxers from the Los Angeles area were scheduled to be in the tournament. According to the column, "The 118-pound division has two good boys in Georgie Goodman, former Chicago Golden Glove champion, now of Pasadena, and Tully Pontecorvo."

According to Hector Angelo Pontecorvo's Petition For Naturalization in digital form in the U.S., Naturalization Records, 1840-1957 database on Ancestry.com, one Tillio Pontecorvo, one of Hector's two children, was born on August 15, 1914 in Niagara, New York. Hector, a tailor living with his family in Los Angeles, California, was originally known as Ettore Angelo Pontecorvo. Both Hector and his wife, Frances, were natives of Italy. It appears that Hector filed his petition on October 17, 1927.

Tully was a "Tailor & Presser" in "K-B Sportswear" while Mary was a waitress in a café.
