"Turkey Thompson of Los Angeles, saw his hopes of a title bout with NBA heavyweight champ Ezzard Charles go out a Legion Stadium window last night as he dropped a majority 10-round decision to Chicago's Johnny Holman. Thompson, boasting three straight knockouts in his last three Legion appearances, was a solid 5-1 favorite. But Holman, 200, out-hit his 205 pound opponent throughout the fight and stopped his aggressive lunges with short hooks to the chin. Holman was too elusive for Thompson and caused him to miss repeatedly with his usually potent left. Thompson was groggy in at least three of the rounds, and in the 7th it appeared that he might fold when Holman opened up with both hands." -United Press
