- 1913: Professional boxing is made illegal in the state, but will not be rigidly enforced for years. It makes it a misdemeanor to hold a boxing bout in which a "prize" is given and for which admission is charged. 3 January 1920 Twin Falls Daily News
- 1920-01-03: Attorney General H. M. Havner reminds county officials that prizefighting has been illegal state-wide since 1913, and advises them to request sheriffs to make arrests when violations occur. 3 January 1920 Twin Falls Daily News
- 1933-11-26: Police commissioner Harvey Jaeger tells promoter Paul Anthony that programs in Burlington are to be stopped as prize fighting is not legal in Iowa. Iowa News Service wire
- 1937-6-14: A new policy is implemented, where official decisions are to be given for Iowa State championship bouts. This debuts on a program in Des Moines where the middleweight and lightweight titles are contested. Sioux City Journal, June 16, 1937.
- 1941-04-07: Des Moines puts on their first program with official decisions.
- 1941-09-01: Waterloo puts on their first program with official decisions.
