Uensal Arik (born 27 October 1980), also known by the ring name “Patron,” is a German-Turkish professional boxer. Born in Parsberg, Bavaria, Germany, and based in Berlin, Arik competed professionally from 2011 through 2020. He compiled a professional record of 36 wins and 2 losses, with 29 victories by knockout, while winning regional, international and world championships across the super-middleweight, super-welterweight and middleweight divisions.

Early life and amateur career

Arik played football during his youth and spent time with SSV Jahn Regensburg and Fenerbahçe. His football career was affected by a serious leg injury.

He began boxing at the age of 27, initially as a form of conditioning, and later won the East Bavarian amateur middleweight championship. After approximately three years as an amateur, Arik entered the professional ranks at age 30.

Professional career

Arik made his professional debut on 20 May 2011. After losing his first contest, he won his next 18 fights.

In October 2011, Arik won the German International super-middleweight title. He added the WBF International super-middleweight championship in December 2011.

In 2012, Arik captured the IBF East/West Europe and IBF International super-middleweight titles. On 22 March 2013, he stopped former African champion Francis Cheka to win the vacant IBF Inter-Continental super-middleweight championship.

Arik later competed at super welterweight. He won an interim WBU championship in 2015, followed by the IBF East/West Europe super-welterweight title later that year. In 2016, he captured the GBU World and WBU super-welterweight championships.

On 12 May 2018, Arik defeated Nikoloz Berkatsashvili by second-round stoppage at the Eisstadion in Augsburg, Germany, to win the vacant Universal Boxing Federation European super-welterweight title.

In November 2019, Arik defeated former EBU European champion Siarhei Huliakevich by decision to win the WBC Asian middleweight title.

In July 2020, he stopped Dustin Ammann in the third round to capture the BDB International German middleweight championship.

Life outside boxing

Outside the ring, Arik has participated in public discussions concerning democracy, integration, racism and human rights. He has supported children’s charitable causes and served as an ambassador for Stiftung KinderHerz. Arik is also an advocate of animal welfare and plant-based nutrition.

Arik authored VegBoxen, a book about vegan nutrition and athletic performance. His autobiography, Alman vs. Kanake: Der Kampf gegen Deutsche, Türken und mich selbst, was published in 2023.
