Vince Dundee 160 lbs lost to Freddie Steele 155 lbs by TKO in round 3 of 10
- Date: 1935-07-30
- Location: Civic Ice Arena, Seattle, Washington, USA
- Referee: Tommy McCarty
- Referee McCarty stopped the bout midway through the third round after Dundee, the former Middleweight Champion of the World, had been knocked down eleven times. Dundee hadn't landed a single effective blow. He sustained a slight concussion and a broken jaw on the left side, between the second and third molars, clear through. He was taken to Seattle's Providence Hospital, where he recuperated about a week. Doctors advised him not to fight for three months or longer. With some 140-plus documented bouts to his credit by this date, this was Dundee's first loss by knockout.
- "Freddie Steele, 22 year old craftsmen of Pacific Northwest rings, brought new life into the middleweight division today with a fierce attack that left ex-champion Vince Dundee suffering from concussion and his jaw broken in three places. Ten thousand fans saw the Tacoma boy knock Dundee down 10 times in three rounds." -United Press.
- There was a pre-fight agreement by the commission and the two camps, to not stop the fight, unless a signal was given by the corner's chief second. Referee McCarty defied the order and stopped the bout anyway as Dundee had taken a horrific beating.
