Vince Gambill

On his WWII enlistment card Vincent K. Gambill is listed as 5 foot 6, 156 pounds. He had completed 4 years of high school. I believe he attended Tuttle public schools and most likely graduated from Tuttle High School.

His full name was Vincent Kyle Gamble. This is a link to a studio picture of him.

In the 1920 census he is a baby and the family is in Eagle, OK. By 1930 his Father has died and his Mother has remarried and the family is in Tuttle, Ok. In both census they are tenant farmers. In the 1940 census he is a lodger/farm laborer on what looks like a small farm. On the 27th Feb 1942 he enlisted in the army. I suspect this is a re-enlistment due to the following.

In July of 1941, Gambill lost the Camp Barkeley Welterweight Championship to Pete Martinez. Gambill was representing the anti-tank battery, HQ division and lost a tough hard fought fight but lost a decision when Martinez won the last two rounds. (Yuma Daily Sun, 21st July 1941)
