Von Clay 174 lbs beat Chic Calderwood 176 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1961-03-07
  • Location: Empire Pool, Wembley, London, United Kingdom
  • "In the co-feature, American Von Clay upset Chic Calderwood, the British and Empire light heavyweight champion. The defeat was the first in 30 professional fights for Calderwood and dealt the Briton a severe setback in his plans for a world title fight. Clay's solid punching dropped Calderwood for a five-count in the 2nd round. Calderwood failed to bother the young Philadelphian with his favorite right cross and Clay kept boring in, pouring punches into Calderwood's weary and blood-spattered body." -United Press International

    • The other co-feature pitted England's Terry Downes against the American Willie Green in a scheduled 10 rounder.
