Wallace Bud Smith 136 lbs drew with Johnny Gonsalves 138 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10

"Johnny Gonsalves, a fancy fighter from Oakland, Calif., with a feather-like punch, was awarded an unpopular draw with Wallace (Bud) Smith of Cincinatti tonight in a 10-round battle between lightweight contenders at the City Auditorium. Smith shook Gonsalves with a smashing left hook late in the 1st round, then floored him with another left hook to the jaw. The Californian got up quickly and took the mandatory eight-count on his feet. In the 4th, Sith stunned Gonsalves with another left hook to the jaw, followed by another left and a right cross. As Gonsalves reeled away, Smith followed him around the ring, throwing every punch in the book. One right to the body doubled Gonsalves up and he wobbled away into the ropes. But the Oakland fighter took it all and near the end of the round he brought a roar from the crowd by coming off the ropes to slug it out with Smith toe-to-toe. In the late rounds Smith missed badly as he pursued the elusive Gonsalves and when he managed to corner his opponent on the ropes, Gonsalves neatly tied him up." -Associated Press
