  • "Walter Neusel, German heavyweight, last night outpointed Larry Gains, Toronto negro, who holds the heavyweight boxing title of the British Empire, after being on the short end halfway through their 10 round bout at the Palais de Sport. Six thousand persons saw Gains ahead on points in the first four rounds and gasped as the big German came back strong in the 5th to pile up a good lead. Neusel shook Gains badly in the 5th with a stiff left to the jaw. Gains tried hard in the 6th and had the German backed into the ropes twice but could not finish him. Neusel recovered in the 7th and chased Gains all over the ring. The next two rounds were about even, but in the 10th Neusel landed a hard right to Gains' head, followed it up with a series of stiff body punches and then connected with a stinging right to the jaw which dropped Gains for no count." -Canadian Press
