Amateur boxer Warren Taliaferro died of brain injuries sustained during a Sept. 25, 1890 bout with Frank W. McConnico at Lexington, Virginia, USA.
The pugilists were cadets at Virginia Military Academy. They had a dispute, and they decided to settle it with a prize fight. The fight lasted about half an hour. McConnico was unconscious at the end of the fight, and Taliferro went to his room with his nose bleeding. He went to sleep and never awoke. McConnico afterwards attempted suicide, so was placed in jail.
