"Unbeaten middleweight contender Pfc. Wilbert (Skeeter) McClure of Toledo and the U.S. Army scored his 14th consecutive victory Saturday night on a unanimous 10-round decision over veteran Teddy Wright of Detroit in their nationally televised fight. McClure had Wright groggy in the 8th and 9th rounds, but couldn't floor nor knock out the Detroiter. McClure, 156 to Wright's 154, brought the crowd of 2,000 to its feet in the Toledo Sports Arena in the 5th, 8th, 9th and 10th when he landed his best punches. Wright started off impressively and tried to force the fight in every round, but it was McClure - on leave from the Army - who landed the harder punches and did the most damage." -United Press International
