Wilfredo Gomez-Jose Luis Soto was a fight held on February 20, 1982.
Gomez had come off losing to Salvador Sanchez. He used this fight as a preparation bout for other, world championship defenses (he was the WBC's world Super Bantamweight titlist) againt Juan Meza, Juan Antonio Lopez and Roberto Rubaldino, as well as a possible rematch with Sanchez.
Soto was an experienced fighter who had beaten Lupe Pintor and also was a stablemate of Julio Cesar Chavez.
The fight's scenario was studded with Puerto Rican celebrities, as Gomez is an idol in Puerto Rico.
Gomez ended the fight in round two, when a right to the body sent Soto circling on the floor, almost sending him out of the ring, and the referee counting to ten.
