Scoring Confusion

Clarification from the WBO

Please be advised Judge Mr. Cesar Ramos’ scores are incorrect. His original scorecard resulted 97- 91 in favour of Mr. Rivera. Further, in the final round ten (10), Judge Ramos deducted mistakenly Mr. Mendez a point for an intentional foul when such deduction should have been adjudicated to Mr. Rivera. Consequently, the round was scored as a 10-8 round in favour of Mr. Rivera when in fact, said round should have been scored 9-9 considering that Judge Ramos originally scored the round 10-9 in favour of Rivera minus the erroneous point deduction if properly adjudicated, would have resulted in a 9-9 round. Immediately thereafter, the contest was officially announced as a Split Decision (SD) in favour of Mr. Mendez with Mr. Ramos’ scorecard indicating 97-91 in favour of Mr. Rivera.Furthermore, the acting commissioner Ms. Dana Rivera in conjunction with the assigned WBO Supervisor Mr. Adolfo Flores, came in knowledge that apparently, Judge Ramos had difficulties identifying which boxers were assigned to their respective corners though he voted correctly after the completion of the first round scoring 10-8 in favour of Mr. Mendez after Mr. Rivera suffered a knockdown. According to the official scorecards Mr. Mendez was positioned on the left side of the scorecards whereas Mr. Rivera was positioned the right side of the scorecards respectively. Upon Mr. Ramos’ error acknowledgement, the acting commissioner and WBO Supervisor improperly inverted the names of each fighter in the scorecards seeking to address and solve the subject issue. In light of the foregoing, we are hereby reporting that the official bout result is a Split Decision (SD) in favour of Mr. Mendez. Please proceed accordingly.
