William Daniels (Hoquiam)

According to the Oct. 15, 1919 Tacoma News Tribune (Tacoma, WA, USA), former Hoquiam, Washington amateur boxer William Daniels had served in World War I as a United States Marine. He was then in the Philippine Islands, and was returning to attend the Corvalis, Oregon, Agricultural College. He had been a field warden at Cavite Naval Prison Station. He had knocked out African-American boxer Joe McCarty in five rounds (of a scheduled ten-rounder) in an amateur bout. (McCarty had fought Young Wolgast.)
