Willie Nelson successfully defended his NABF light middleweight title in emphatic form.
Backed against the ropes, Nelson connected with a big right hand midway through the opening round that sent Michael Medina down for a count of eight. Medina got to his feet, but another right hand seconds later sent him down again. At that, referee Arthur Mercante Jr. waved an end to the bout without beginning a count.
Medina, who entered with a record of 3-2 in his previous five bouts, fell awkwardly on both the first and second knockdowns and had to be taken from the ring by stretcher after suffering an injury to his lower right leg.
