Willie Pastrano 188 lbs beat Johnny Arthur 228 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

Notes

  • Pastrano entered the fight ranked No. 7 at heavyweight.
  • Pastrano floored Arthur in the third round with a long right hand.
  • The Associated Press reported on April 5, 1956: "The smooth-punching Pastrano, 20-year-old native of the French Quarter, spotted Arthur 40 pounds in their 10-round bout last night and took home the easiest victory of his short career. At 188, Pastrano was the heaviest he's ever scaled and made the 228-pound Arthur a steady target for his talented left hand. Pastrano's speed more than offset Arthur's big weight advantage. Willie piled up points by pecking at Arthur's nose with a steady stream of lefts and rights and occasionally rocked the South African with an overhand right. Like most of Pastrano's recent opponents, Arthur found it difficult to maintain the quick pace."
  • The Associated Press scored the fight 9-1 for Pastrano. Judges Francis Kercheval and Pete Giarusso also scored it 9-1 for Pastrano, while Judge Eddie Wolfe gave Pastrano all ten rounds.
