"Andy Kendall's 12 year pro boxing career apparently ended Thursday night as young Alvaro 'Indian Yaqui' Lopez scored a 5th round TKO over the Oregon fighter in a light heavyweight bout. Kendall, 34, couldn't answer the bell for the 5th round. "That's it, I've had it," said Kendall in announcing his retirement. The Scappoose, Ore., fighter, whose ring record fell to 47-14-8 called it quits after a disastrous 4th round." -Associated Press

• Kendall actually had one more fight before calling it a career. He fought Karl Zurheide in November of '74 in Milwaukee.
