"For the first time in three tries, Alvaro 'Indian Yaqui' Lopez defeated Jesse Burnett. Lopez regained the Calif. light heavyweight title when he won a 12 round split decision over Burnett before 1,500 fans here Wednesday night. The crowd paid $12,000. Lopez said before the fight his strategy was to rough up Burnett and he was able to do it in the 7th and 10th rounds. Lopez had trouble solving Burnett's left jab like he had in the first two fights, but he was able to score by wading in and trading punches with Burnett." -Edwardsville Intelligencer
