Mickey Walker 157 lbs lost to Young Corbett III 155 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1934-08-14
  • Location: Seals Stadium, San Francisco, California, USA
  • Referee: Toby Irwin

"Young Corbett III, contender from Fresno, stepped in the middleweight championship picture tonight by outscoring Mickey Walker in a 10 round fight. Corbett, a left-handed fighter, continually found Walker's jaw and body with damaging punishment. Walker's best round was the 9th when he caught Corbett with a right to the jaw and the Fresno fighter went down. He appeared to be off balance and did not take a count. Corbett was up immediately, swinging his left in Walker's direction. He scored sufficiently to even the round. The 10th round was Corbett's. Walker attempted to stage a spurt to follow up his knockdown advantage but the legs of the 33 year old New Jersey fighter seemed lacking. Corbett met Walker's drives and held a lead at the end which caused referee Toby Irwin to raise his hand in token of victory." -United Press
