The first round was even, as both were cautious. Thompson had an edge in the 2nd and 3rd, as he backed Corbett up with body shots. Corbett rallied to take the 4th round, as he forced the fight, landing blows to Thompson's face. The 5th round was even, as both boxers attempted to land a knockout blow. Corbett put on a furious finish, nearly sweeping Thompson off his feet in the final round. Thompson appeared tired at the finish. Many fans felt the bout could have been scored a draw.
