Young Regan of Victoria, commenced his punch for pay career in 1948, he had only fought 17 times when following Jimmy Carruthers, winning of the world crown, he took on old foe, Kevin James at Leichhardt Stadium on 12th February 1953 for the vacant Bantamweight Championship of Australia. Regan went home with the title, and James went home with dented pride and a few bruises for his trouble.
