Young Stribling 175 lbs beat Johnny Risko 190 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1926-05-14
  • Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
  • Referee: Jim Crowley

"The state of Georgia today has a potential light heavyweight king in W.L. (Young) Stribling. Last night at MSG, Stribling yielded a 14 1/2 pound handicap to Johnny Risko of Cleveland, and then vanquished the conqueror of Paul Berlenbach with a dazzling attack which twice had Risko groggy. Only in the last two rounds did Risko make any impression on the Georgian's defense. Stribling won 7 of the 10 rounds, his advantage in the 5th and 7th being pronounced. Smashing rights to the jaw had Risko groggy in these sessions." -Associated Press

  • Although fighting another 10 rounder 10 days after this bout, Stribling was already scheduled to challenge Paul Berlenbach for the light heavyweight championship on June 10th.
