Summary
Gamboa came out in the opening round managing his distance very well. He remained largely beyond the reach of Mayo, except for the quick moments where he sped in and threw power shots. He was successful in landing to the body with both hands and began to connect with success upstairs as the round concluded. Interestingly, near the end of the round, Mayo fell forward and was for a moment on one knee. Without the referee ever stepping in, Mayo got to his feet and the two continued. In Round 2, Gamboa continued landing upstairs and a clean right hand sent Mayo falling back into the ropes. As Gamboa attacked, the referee stepped in a waved an end to the bout.
