Yuriokis Gamboa, a Cuban fighting out of Miami, Florida, retained the WBA Featherweight title with a fourth round stoppage of challenger Whyber Garcia of Panama City, Panama. The first three rounds were very close, with Garcia preferring to box on the outside, throwing jabs, and Gamboa keeping his distance while countering with jabs of his own while keeping out of range. Gamboa, now 16-0, 14 kos, picked up the pace in the fourth, dropping Garcia with a combination. Garcia beat the count, but he was in trouble, and after Gamboa threw a brutal assault of power punches with Garcia helpless on the ropes and bleeding profusely from a cut above the left eye, the referee stopped the contest.
