Zovek Barajas 149 lbs lost to Billy Lloyd 150 lbs by KO at 1:55 in round 4 of 10

  • Date: 1974-04-25
  • Location: Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA
  • Referee: Eddie Fierro

"Zovek Barajas, who soared from obscurity to No. 4 among the 147 pounders, was knocked out for the second straight time by Billy Lloyd Thursday night at Olympic Auditorium. Lloyd, who startled boxing fans with a 2nd round KO of Barajas in Mexicali two months ago, did it in four rounds this time, flooring his foe four times. On the last knockdown, from a right to the chin, Barajas' head hit hard on the canvas and it took several minutes to revive him. Dr. Roger A. Thill checked Barajas in the dressing room and sent him to Pacific Hospital in Long Beach for observation." -The L.A. Times

  • The California State Athletic Commission convened a week later and barred Barajas from boxing in the state for 6 months due to an investigation announced by chief inspector Joey Olmos declaring that while hospitalized after the bout it was determined that Barajas suffered from mononucleosis, a virus and what they deemed to be a "social disorder". All of which eluded two physicals conducted the day of the fight.
