Re: Boxing News

Nick's a top man who has a vast knowledge of the amateur game. Only met him a couple of times but when we shared stories at the GB championhips in November, you can see just how much the vest game means to him. Nice to see him giving back to the unpaid code. Well said. I've also met him a few times...

Re: Macklin: 'I'd beat Elcock every day of the week'

I like Macklin's attitude. Although, he's looking more and more bashed up the better the level of his competition gets. There's some good domestic fights around. I'd pick him over both Midlands rivals and the Barker fight is a pick 'em for me. The one I'd like to see is against Thirlwall. That's be ...

Re: David Pereira - who is this guy? What has he done?

He was a decent amateur for Lambeth's Fitzroy Lodge about 5-10 years ago. He turned pro, but – I believe – had trouble with his eyes that forced him to retire. He boxed at super-feather/lightweight. :TU:

Re: DeGale SPOILER

I agree, Billy Joe's our best hope of Gold and I think either Tony Jeffries of Kenneth Egan can make the light-heavy final. Bradley Saunders will have his hands more than full with the Bulgarian – Boris Georgiev. I like the Cuban – Roniel Iglesias – at light-welter.

Re: DeGale SPOILER

Well, he was buggered when he won the Worlds in Chicago. And then when Bradley Saunders won bronze at 64 – thus qualifying for Beijing – he was double buggered! It's said that he struggled terribly at the weight in Chicago, yet he produced the performances of his career to win the tournament. They h...

Re: DeGale SPOILER

Matvey Korobov – the Russian middleweight – is awesome. Probably the best amateur at any weight. It'll take an almost superhuman effort from DeGale to topple him. Still, he's got to get past the American first.

Re: Bradley and Billy Joe Saunders SPOILER!!

Billy Joe has beaten the Cuban before. If he beats him again he really could go all the way. However, it's no formality – Carlos Bantuer will know what he's all about this time. The winner of this could eventually win the gold.

Re: Complete List of Olympic Boxers from AIBA

Welterweight looks really open and Saunders has proved that on hi day he can beat anyone in the division.
Gavin's weight is a real worry. He's not made lightweight since last November. He's admitted he struggles and will make weight at the last minute...

In terms of standard I found it to be a pretty disappointing night to be honest. Luke Campbell was clearly the best boxer on show.

I find that very hard to believe. The English corner would decide whether or not to fight on. Perhaps they thought it would be better to save him for the 3rd/4th box-off instead?

Fantastic result for James DeGale. Darren Sutherland had beaten him twice before. Billy Joe Saunders' sensational run continues... a great talent. And Stephen Smith has consistently been one of our best amateurs in the last few years. :TU:

I fancy David Price to make it, possibly Billy Joe Saunders if he gets a good draw and the same for either James DeGale or Darren Sutherland.

Interesting to see Joe Selkirk representing Wales!

Don't really think it's fair to compare the pagination of a one-off issue of BN, that is essentially two weeks' issues in one at Xmas, with a single issue of BM. Plus we gave away a free calendar with our "Xmas" issue (BN charges for their calendar). Swings and roundabouts, I'd say. In fa...
