Why do refs keep breaking up fighters when they get close?
Why do refs keep breaking up fighters when they get close?
Watching many fights, why do ref's stop boxers when they get up close and start trading inside?? some fights , the ref stays out and lets the fighters get on with it. It seems as if there are 2 sports, one where fighting is allowed on the inside and one where it isnt.
Same with other sports. For instance, some refs or linesman give the benefit to the forward regarding offside in football, others don't.
Until there's concrete rules created, and there probably won't, this will always be a problem in boxing. Same as some judges scoring for agression over volume of punches.
I do think that refs weren't as strict about "in-fighting" over the decades, at least from the fights I have. Others might know better.

Quite close to a british ref, and spoke often on this subject. and a good ref will always keep a fight going while good clean punches are being thrown, but at times they have to say break for reasons such as holding, pulling down on other boxers and frequent use of the head. which is often not seen by viewers on telly or at ringside.

Cortez was a disgrace. You only had to see DLH and Hopkins in the crowd to see that.StepinFetchit wrote:fozzy wrote: MUST JUST SAY JOE WAS A DISCRASE IN HATTON FIGHT
Yeh, some idiots wanted to see a Hatton hug-fest just so they could say their man went 12 rounds.
However, it wouldn't have changed the overall result.

Any why would i give a fook what Hopkins & DLH were doind during the fight, they both wanted PBF to lose, you can see the way DLH jumps out of his seat when Hatton tripped PBF in the first round and he thought he caught him.....Hopkins had nothing positive to say about PBF until after the fight.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Cortez was a disgrace. Your Hopkins statement is incorrect as I read an artical the next morning in the New York Times that he was "disgusted" with the way "the Brits" were during the national anthem and said he felt after that moment that Floyd had to "kick his ass".StepinFetchit wrote:Any why would i give a fook what Hopkins & DLH were doind during the fight, they both wanted PBF to lose, you can see the way DLH jumps out of his seat when Hatton tripped PBF in the first round and he thought he caught him.....Hopkins had nothing positive to say about PBF until after the fight.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Cortez was a disgrace. Hopkins talks sh!t, even more so now he's a promoter, he was "disgusted" with the booing of the national anthem but his "white boy" comment to Calzaghe was ok....Hopkins is a good fighter but 1 dumb MF'er.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Your Hopkins statement is incorrect as I read an artical the next morning in the New York Times that he was "disgusted" with the way "the Brits" were during the national anthem and said he felt after that moment that Floyd had to "kick his ass".StepinFetchit wrote:Any why would i give a fook what Hopkins & DLH were doind during the fight, they both wanted PBF to lose, you can see the way DLH jumps out of his seat when Hatton tripped PBF in the first round and he thought he caught him.....Hopkins had nothing positive to say about PBF until after the fight.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote: Cortez was a disgrace. I dunno, he's managed to make the public think he's still a top 3 fighter in the world by beating a chunky light middle/middleweight. That takes some going.StepinFetchit wrote:Hopkins talks sh!t, even more so now he's a promoter, he was "disgusted" with the booing of the national anthem but his "white boy" comment to Calzaghe was ok....Hopkins is a good fighter but 1 dumb MF'er.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Your Hopkins statement is incorrect as I read an artical the next morning in the New York Times that he was "disgusted" with the way "the Brits" were during the national anthem and said he felt after that moment that Floyd had to "kick his ass".StepinFetchit wrote: Any why would i give a fook what Hopkins & DLH were doind during the fight, they both wanted PBF to lose, you can see the way DLH jumps out of his seat when Hatton tripped PBF in the first round and he thought he caught him.....Hopkins had nothing positive to say about PBF until after the fight.

A lot of Ali s later fights were fought at close quarters on the ropes.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Same with other sports. For instance, some refs or linesman give the benefit to the forward regarding offside in football, others don't.

I do like watching most combat sports, K1, MMA and boxing. But I think the conclusion to this is, that in this corrupt sport, if you are the house fighter or have bought the ref, then you can box whatever way you want.REAL_DEAL wrote:I think MMA would be more your thing.boxbet wrote:Watching many fights, why do ref's stop boxers when they get up close and start trading inside?? some fights , the ref stays out and lets the fighters get on with it.
