At the time, neither guy had really established himself. McCall had always lost when he had fought someone decent and Seldon hadn't fought anyone decent at that point.
Both guys came to fight. Seldon used his jab fairly effectively in the early rounds and occasionally landed a big shot. McCall as well showed some boxing skills that he had but doesn't always utilize throughout his career.
Seldon seemed to be winning after 4 rounds though it was pretty close. In round 5 , they began to go at it toe to toe. One thing surprised me. Seldon shook up McCall a little bit. McCall wasn't in major trouble, but still he had a great chin and it showed that Seldon had some power.
Round 5 was Seldon's round. However, the tide began to turn in round 6. McCall began to take over, although Seldon still occasionally got a good shot in.
McCall did hurt Seldon with some flush shots, but it was a little surprising that Seldon didn't crumble, given his reputation as having a glass jaw.
However, from then on McCall began to take control and Seldon began to tire in the 7th round. By the 9th round, Seldon was ready to go and McCall took advantage. McCall jumped all over him and knocked him down 3 times, winning the fight via the 3 knockdown rule.
All in all it was a good fight. I don't want to oversell this as a "Classic" because it wasn't. (even though it was on ESPN Classic
However, it was a surprisingly good fight with more than average action.
I was wondering if anyone else saw this fight and what they thought of it?
