I am very disappointed in the 2008 calendar. I thought the main focus leading up to the Olympics was to give our Olympic team as many international competition opportunities as possible. I see three dual meets - one in San Diego with only three of the Olympians (the rest are the training partners) and two more: Puerto Rico here in April and Puerto Rico there in June. I guess "they" are counting the Worlds and the China event from last year. I just hope our team is prepared (we still have to qualify 6).

Supposedly USAB just received 1.8 (?) mil from a branch of the Foundation (although I can't find the information any more).

I read about the foundation while it was on the uSAB site, but it was only up for a couple hours. I made some call to find out as much as I could about how it would be dispersed. I called USAB and was tole that Julie said that they were putting more information together and that it should come back up this week.

Just had a meeting with the school official and so far, so good. Another meeting is set up for tomarrow with the priciple of one of the schools. Although the head of the Board of Ed. says he does not like the "brutal sport of boxing since it is all about knocking down your opponent" ,he will be leaving the system soon. I was told that a great deal of emphesis is being put on finding activitie for the "at risk youths". and that what I am already doing ties in very well with the goals of the most of the board. I am always facinated by the lack of insight and investigation done by some of people that are suppose to be teaching our kids how to think, for a living. I am almost sure that if I told them I wanted to teach curling, they would have said they would love an after school salon program. I do think that what happens here is pretty normal for the rest of the county, so if we are able to overcome it, here, we need to keep track of how that is done as well. What I want to create is an easy to use template for others to be able to borrow and start in other parts of the country. Keep your fingers crosse and say a paryer for me.

Is this in Balamer, coach, or out where you live on the Eastern Shore?

So the template you are describing will be put in a book called "Starting a High School Boxing Program for Dummies". I guess that is a little long, but you can come up with something. I think the book will sell a few copies.

I have too many friends in this sport to touch that one. How about " CPR for amateur boxing" "or saving souls one punch at a time" Or how about "how to become a real ring leading in school" we could have signs that say " no fighting on school property.....outside the ring"

Yeah, next time I come back to MD I need to go down south or to the Eastern Shore; I could go for some warm and sand and sea right about now.

It might actually be a shorter drive to Baltimore...but the company there is a hell of a lot less friendly; and frankly, I'm afraid I'll get lost in that city (again). Be good to get some good old Maryland Blue Crabs again though. :)

And as much as I enjoy the crabs on here, Mel, they're not as tasty (and edible) as the ones on the Shore.

Hal - why would anyone want Blue Crabs, warm air and the sea? We have a foot of the white stuff and temps in the teens. Doesn't that sound wonderful? Anyway if you come to GR for the National GG in May you can see our wonderful shore. The water temps won't be too warm in early May, but it is still a great place to visit.

The Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior. That lake is colder than Lake Michigan. Ask any of the kids that have tried to swim in it while at NMU/USOEC. Lake Michigan actually warms up in the summer and at certain times is tepid. I don't think it will be in early May though.

Great song, by the way guys. Love Gordie; he's looking pretty rough these days-my mom saw him live a bit back and said it looked like the hard living had taken it's toll on him a bit.

Kolya - the hard living usually takes its toll on everyone. Clean living usually show too. If you keep boxing, you will likely look good for your age even when you are a Grandpa like me.

I've always been pretty active; so I should be ok-my dad doesn't look 58, and I don't plan on giving up on boxing or working out any time soon. I do intend to keep working on my defense though; so when I'm 40 I don't look good but sound bad.
