RJJ in his prime was one of the most gifted fighters i had ever witnessed, although he refused to venture out of his comfort zone & really test himself.
Similarly Tito was a class act in his prime, but i fear he is giving away too much weight in this one ..................... RJJ KO Rnd 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing Karmazin tomorrow as I'm not staying up til that time.
he looked like a bit of a sideshow sitting in the background at the weigh-in when you look at the bill-topper, but I guess them two guys have earned their high profile.
(not too impressed with any of this talk about Tito's dodgy wraps if it's true).
Roman Karmazin will be the best fighter on the whole bill tonight.

No, I'm simply pointing out that he DID do them - I make no reference to timeframe so how you infer I make it sound like a two-year period is quite bizarreRed Medicine wrote:You make it sound like he did all of that in a span of two years...Deserter wrote:JCB123 wrote:RJJ in his prime was one of the most gifted fighters i had ever witnessed, although he refused to venture out of his comfort zone & really test himself. He fought Hopkins and Toney and stepped up to heavyweight to face Ruiz - not most people's definition of a comfort zone
Aside from perhaps his second fight with Griffin, what did he do between 1995 and 2002 that matched those three achievements? (And I used to be a RJJ fan.)
You said in his prime, so are you now somehow trying to say he wasn't in his prime for the three fights mentioned?
Anyway, now that you've completely shifted the goalposts by mentioning a specific timeframe, I'll merely say that while it's the weakest period of Jones' resume, you have to judge in context, and as with Calzaghe to a degree, both suffered from a lack of quality challengers at the time. Sure, this doesn't excuse the poor nature of some of his opponents, but there were no younger equivalents of a Hopkins or a Toney for him to face.
I'm a fan of both RJJ and Calzaghe, but Calzaghe was actually far more guilty of operating in a comfort zone for too long a period, Jones' issues were more external in that the real 'tests' simply weren't out there for him during this period in what were then his natural weight divisions.
In referring to 'comfort zone's' i agree JC never stepped out of his.
In relation to RJJ i was merely stating that at the time (when IMO he reigned supreme) he could have tested himself further & had the fights to test him, fought abroad (out of his comfort zone), fought in vegas & consolidate his position as the best P4P fighter of his time.

Too old to come back now though unfortunately. What a waste!

The irony is that I thought Karmazin was cruising the fight and looking good. He just got tagged in the last and due to it being the first time he's ever been put down he showed his inexperience as he bounced straight back up rather than taking a count.

i went and missed the karmazin fight.
nodded off for a few hours.
jones pissed the fight easy.
unlike jones he actually walked his man down.
he's rarely boxed that way in over 50 fights.
still don't think he has enuff left to beat hops or cal though.
You woke up outside Radio Rentals and missed the Karmnazin fight?
I woke up just after the KO!
