great round. gonna give that to Johanneson again for the quality heavier shots. really is getting hit flush far too many times. hes got a chin, but fornicating hell he cant keep taking these shots.

As I suspected, Mitchell's liking of a tear-up is costing him as he's shipping shots he doesn't need to. Carl finding it far easier to connect now as Mitchell's becoming increasingly static.

WHAT A fornicating ROUND. mitchell almost down. another ten seconds in that round and it couldve been gone.

mitchell paying for his lack of defence. chin might be good, but cant take this many hard shots and stay on your feet.

Anyone else seeing similarities with Moore vs Macklin with the younger, inexperienced fighter starting fast and then gassing and fighting purely on heart and instinct, while the more experienced pro paces himself and starts to take control over the latter half?
I think a big part of Mitchell's problem is that he overestimates his own punching power - he's hit Carl cleanly on numerous occasions and has never looked like putting a dent in him.

Sweet Jesus, what a turnaround. I would've pulled Mitchell out after 6, he looked like taking some severe punishment there, looked like a GREAT chin was being chipped away at far too early in his career.

He just doesn't know how to hold or take a count when hurt, or lose for that matter. Amazing heart.

then got real ragged and carl was putting it on him.

mitchell got back to setting his punches up in the 9th and put carl away.

Mitchell has found his level tonight. A sharper, fresher opponent will expose those flaws.

There were no complaints from Johanneson or Maloney. It was a fair stoppage. It prevented Johanneson from taking any unnecessary punishment, he was clearly out on his feet.

I think I'd have you sacked as a corner man if you pulled me out then. You're still doing well scorecard wise and just had a bad 30 seconds. How many great comebacks would we have missed if people are yanked out after 30 seconds of trouble and not given a chance to sort it out.

Must confess it looked as though he could have got pulled out but was left in and Johanneson fell apart. Too many punches and hard fights i'm afraid for Johanneson plus Mitchell found his second wind.

Look for Mitchell to take an Intercontinental fight next and hang around defending it until a vacant "world" title becomes available.

Entertaining fight. Always felt Mitchell had that little bit extra though.

Bizarre statement from Kevin in the post fight interview, he plans to be a 3 time world champ in one division. Find it strange planning to lose twice that's all!

Fair enough, but it wasn't a world title and Mitchell was shipping some serious damage in there, not just 30 secs either - much rather see him saved for another day, rather than take a career ending beating, which it looked like to me for a few rounds. Phenominal comeback you have to admit, but the type of war that's better to come late in a career, not at the start.

should've taken a knee though. wasnt really enough time left in the round for Johanneson to take him out if he had, but the way he kept on his feet meant Johanneson had the chance to properly ko him. just not in his nature though to do that, which is what made the fight so exciting

What a fantastic fight.

Due credit to Mitchell - he has bundles of heart and can absorb some punishment. As the commentary team said Johanneson disintegrated but and to my mind gave up a battle of will.

Mitchell is not world class in the sense of the current imcumbents that occupy the higher echelons of the division, and his body shape and robustness at that level will probably be exposed later on.

But hats off to the fella so much heart and offensive character.

They spoke of putting Mitchell in with the Euro champ (Gulyakevitch?) that would be a grueller alright.
