warm up for the malignaggi fight.bigdave82 wrote:Yes because Juan Lazcano is so much more deserving than 'alphabet souper' Junior Witter!hitman_hatton1 wrote:but he beat gavin rees Dennis.![]()
respect to rees.
but he's european level at best really.
ricky hatton is the champion at 140.
let these alphabet soup guys take each other on to decide who can take on the hitman.
let witter take on one of the other guys with a title and then he strengthens his claims even further.

he's fighting malignaggi later in the year.whicker wrote:Think dude- its Kotelnik and Witter (and Malignaggi) who hold the Main belts.hitman_hatton1 wrote: let these alphabet soup guys take each other on to decide who can take on the hitman.
Hitman can fight them, or he can fade out of the picture. His call.
these 2 tonight are only fighting for a belt that hatton was stripped of.
and witter only has a title that was stripped from tszyu.
who hatton beat of course.

Witter won 1-6 against Kotelnik who just covered up and didnt throw, Kotenik won 7-11 and Witter took the last. Easy to score for me.Autobarn wrote:Hats off to Kotelnik. Really solid showing from one of the better imports to frequent these shores. I still maintain that he beat Mbaye not once but twice. And I stil fail to see how a very bemused Witter managed to nose ahead of AK.
Kotelnik dominated tonight, I gave him every single round, Rees hit elbows all night and kotelnik snapped Rees head back repeatedly ever round. The last few rounds were borderline 10-8s that the commentators were giving to Rees because he punched elbows for the first miniute
Rees probably landed 10% of his shots whereas Kotelnik probably landed 90% of his shots. That was the gulf in class
I can't believe the fans on here had it close and are getting taken in. BUNCE FOR ONCE WAS BANG ON THE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!
If the horribly raw Ngoudjo could push Malignaggi to the limit, I think Kotelnik could beat him. IF he fights with more insistence.Riddick Blowe wrote:does anyone think kotelnik could beat malignaggi? it would be a dull fight for sure and i dont want to see kotelnik/witter II either.
Could be a long way from any meaningful unification in this division.
I agree- Mag may well lose his rematch with N'dou , or whatever his name is.Riddick Blowe wrote:does anyone think kotelnik could beat malignaggi? it would be a dull fight for sure and i dont want to see kotelnik/witter II either.

Witter, we'll, we shall see.
Don't foget Colin Lynes and Olusegun are floating around there too.
Nigel Wright V Gavin Rees could be a good domestic fight.

ngoudjo fights fairly similar to what kotelnik does.Autobarn wrote:If the horribly raw Ngoudjo could push Malignaggi to the limit, I think Kotelnik could beat him. IF he fights with more insistence.
tight measured pressure.
which is how ngoudjo fought paulie.
didn't give much away.
that's how kotelnik fights.
the fight would happen in america if it did happen.
paulie wins it.
I scored it similarly to you. However I didn't have ALL the first 6 to Witter. There were close ones I gave to Kotelnik. I just had Andreas inching ahead by the end. If his blemishes are split decisions, draws and narrow verdicts, all away from home, the feeling is he could've been declared winner.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Witter won 1-6 against Kotelnik who just covered up and didnt throw, Kotenik won 7-11 and Witter took the last. Good comments from Bunce. I think Woodhall got carried away.
I would like to see Khan gun for Kotelnik when he is ready. If Khan could beat Nate Campbell at lightweight then Kotelnik at light welter, I'd be impressed. If Amir is going to be a legend-in-the-making, he should do it. Obviously he's at least a year away from being ready (at the very least)but no doubt the SN press releases will have some content like this.

Ive actually got that fight on tape for some reason...Witter boxed from the outside and won the early rounds Kotelnik did next to nothing for the early rounds just covered up but defnitely it was his solid skills that gave Witter all he could handle for the second half. Kotelnik's tight guard and short precise punches will always give the loose but at times wide swinging Witter problems IMO.Riddick Blowe wrote:thanks, i thought 50/1 was great round odds, but noone read my betting thread.black panther wrote:Well played Bowe, nice one - though was a close call.
about the witter fight- do people think that was an off night for junior or was it kotelnik's tough eastern euro toughness and fundamentals that gave witter problems?

Paulie isn't so good really - just tricky - and fights bad when his hand is injured. Ngoudjo flails like a raw novice but fights with loads of insistence. Kotelnik much more accurate and measured and I've been an admirer for a good year or two.hitman_hatton1 wrote:ngoudjo fights fairly similar to what kotelnik does.Autobarn wrote:If the horribly raw Ngoudjo could push Malignaggi to the limit, I think Kotelnik could beat him. Paulie's no better than Mbaye and isn't much faster, so given that I had Kotelnik beating Mbaye clearly (fight 1) and closely (fight 2) I think he can do it. But if it's in NY they'll give it to Paulie regardless.

Is Witter a NAte Cambell win away from being a legend too thenAutobarn wrote:I scored it similarly to you. However I didn't have ALL the first 6 to Witter. There were close ones I gave to Kotelnik. I am a Witter fan but I couldnt give any of the first 6 to Kotenik, maybe the 6th at a stretch and that would make it a draw. Witter looked bad that night.
Witter and Kotelnik need to rematch and the winner is WBC-WBA unified champ, I reckon Witter shows up this time
I had it even going into round 12, I can't see how Kotelknik was 3 or even 5 rounds ahead as the judges had it. Rees was up there on sheer work rate.
At the end of the day, Rees is not a light-welter and I didn't give him a chance of winning, his style is very predictable, coming in with flurries to the body all the time, that's all he can hope to do at that weight.
If Rees steps down to super-feather he'll be a force to reckon with, but the difference in size is too much for him at light-welter, there's no power in shots.
I am glad Kotelnik got justice though, he deffo beat M'Baye a year ago.

I think Ngoudjo is an exceptional athlete, sort of like a Jermain Taylor of the 140lbers. Ngoudjo should have got wins over Paulie and Castillo.Autobarn wrote:Paulie isn't so good really - just tricky - and fights bad when his hand is injured. Paulie has 1 top class win and winning every round against Ndou (which is supposedly what happened) is excellent no 2 ways about it. I'm not sure how good Paulie is but his lack of any sort of power will surely see his time as belt holder short reigned
Work-rate should come behind to quality of punching and the effect it has on the opponent as a criterion for judgingThe_Don1 wrote:I had it even going into round 12, I can't see how Kotelknik was 3 or even 5 rounds ahead as the judges had it. Rees was up there on sheer work rate.

Really brave effort from Gavin but he just got outclassed in the end, glad the ref stopped it when he did.I really enjoyed the fight though.
I felt Gavin was just fighting on instinct going into the last few rounds. His defence was utterly terrible though, time after time he just went in for an attack and moved back with his chin up in the air, far too easy for Kotelnik. Why he didn't learn to keep his glove up when he was continually getting hit with the same punch was beyond me.
He's in over his head at world title level.Let's face it, M'Baye was so lacklustre when he fought him.He needs to go for the British or European title once he's dusted himself down after this defeat, hopefully it wont have a lasting effect on him.
If Witter cannot get Hatton anytime soon, then I'd be quite happy to see him face Kotelnik again. It would be a good chance of another title for Witter and I'm sure Kotelnick would be willing to fight him again.
