Impossible to tell but I think it might have got many kids interested in boxing.

They might have got wrapped up in the build up and come away thinking 'Mayweather can fight, I want to fight like him' etc....

I started watching boxing when the likes of Sibson took on Hagler - a comparable matchup to Hatton-PBF I feel.

I wanted Sibbo to do it and came away thinking he was brave had a go but that Hagler is awesome.

And ultimately I wanted to have a go at boxing as it piqued my interest.

Not everybody has their colours so firmly nailed to the mast as you DG.

You can want Hatton to win but come away impressed by Mayweather and having enjoyed the fight and event - which I did.

I do ahgree with you to a point.

But hatton has shown he is doing it for himself and no one else.

Benny Hill would have been proud of the Hatton Ring post headbutt.

RIP Mr Hill!

Anyone that can't see that needs to take off their Hatton-hating glasses for a second.

If Hatton can win his next fight convincingly and then take out someone like Malligiwhatshisface the rematch could gain an extra edge.

It would be ideal if Hatton could go into a PBF fight off the back of a Witter fight but I guess that isn't going to happen.

Either way it would be a superb event.
Call me a cynic , but at what weight is this superb event scheduled?
No idea - I've only read the vague quotes in the press the same as most of you so 'scheduled' isn't a term I would use!

I would guess at Welterweight again though....
That's my point goz - it doesn't add up to me - Hatton's already said he's not a welter. It just seems like a lot of hype to ease criticism of his latest opponent.
Don't forget Hatton did once say he'd had the Witter fight written into his contract

I completely agree with your first sentence - I would love to see that fight ODH v Mayweather 2 would be great.

Unfortunately towards the end of the post had me spitting feathers!!!!

B*llocks to what you say there Stu - there is one and only one reason - MONEY!!!

With regards to the outcome of the fight - Floyd will finish it earlier this time around.
What ever the reason.... still not going to give Hatton credit for taking the fight?

I wouldn't give Clinton Woods or Dean Francis a cat in hells chance against David Haye - and I would think both would deep down agree with them. BUT, would I have give them the respect for giving it a go? Of course I would.

As I would if Haye vs Maccarinelli 2 would happen. Pointless fight... but I would give Maccarinelli respect for getting back in there with the guy who outclassed him... not so much Haye though.

Same here.

And anyway - whats wrong with trying to earn a bob or two.

I think Hatton might choose to fight Witter as his last fight.

Will he fook as like. Hatton has no intention of EVER fighting Witter. The only way it happens is if Hatton got done by someone like Lazcano, and was looking for a way back into the big time. Even then, retirement would be the likely option.

Difference ( 1 of them) is Woods and Francis would be outweighed on the night by about 50lbs

HATTON OUTWEIGHED PBF ON THE NIGHT.

Hatton should just say its for the money - all this glory, maybe 3 years ago...NOT NOW!

Stu

Just got in from work sorry for the slowness of reply!!!

I will state again Ricky Hatton has done bloody wonders for British Boxing - absolute wonders his style of fighting and his character has really helped the rejeauvenation of the sport - no one should kid themselves otherwise a lot of that is down to Ricky Hatton - not all of it - but he has had a big part to play.

It is not sour grapes whatsoever when I say forget the "heroic" b*llocks - or the what a brave chap - or give him credit blah blah blah - Stu I am serious when I say if I was offered the same sort of cash and I am fat, 44 and f*cking past it - I would fight absolutely anyone in the world!!!

Its money stu and only money Hatton is fighting Mayweather for the second time around!!!

Nope I do not blame him - and Hatton would be a f*cking idiot if he didn't take the fight when there is that much on the plate - but lets forget the bravado shit from Hatton, his team and his fans - it is about one thing - money!!!

And just for the record - Hatton gets beaten far earlier this time around.

Yeah... its money is a big part of the sport. and yep give me the money and I'd fight floyd aswell (and I don't have a size advantage) .

However, I don't get the negativity. He would have got condemmed had he not excepted the fight for resting on his laurels etc.

Its a case of damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Mayweather might be the second biggest potential pay day for Ricky - but he still holds the biggest challenge.

The reason why he is fighting him is secondary... unless Ricky takes a dive. I think Ricky will give it his all again. The fact is he is still that hardest guy out there. Hatton could make accumalitve millions fighting the likes of Lazcano for another 3/4 years - he cannot keep bouncing back from the floor and expect the manchester faithful to keep supporting him.

DG - Sorry, I was just trying to think of example of a fighter of a world level - not being percieved to have a cat in hells chance with another fight... Okay exact same post but with Colin Lynes vs Floyd Mayweather, or Jamie Moore and Oscar.

Stu,

This time around Ricky gets blasted - nothing would make Team Mayweather happier doing it in front of the British public.

Don't take offense... but are you implying that Ricky will not give it as much an effort as last time? Knowing he's not going to win?

Not at all.

However I remain totally convinced we have seen the best of Ricky Hatton - and guys like Mayweather are freaks of the sport - Hatton is excellent but in my view on the slide - the only thing that beats Mayweather against whoever is complacency and boredom!!

I always stated even when I was in Vegas last year the only fighter I didn't want to see Ricky fight was Floyd Mayweather - IMO he is the greatest fighter since Ali - now watch the guys come out to diss me now!!!

Not getting many complaints with me... although as I said after the DLH fight. It was DLH's speed and boxing that troubled Floyd, not his strength as I and others predicted. In the end his legs went, but would they have had in 1998?

I went out from watching that saying that Oscar 1997 at 147 would beat Floyd 2007 at 147... I didn't think that before the fight.

But Floyd's mustard, hard to find a weakness and with Oscar I honestly think we have two of the very very best.

But as long as Ricky gives it his very best - fights to win, then he'll have my utmost respect.

I would actually approve of Hatton fighting Pacquiao now, Pac's fans need a reality check and I'm wondering why there horribly blind and biased to how good Pac really Is.

Some think he can surpass atg's achievements like Wilfredo Gomez or Alexis Arguello or even beat them!

Is It the political problems In the Philippines and the fact that Pac Is a hero there, that the politicians can use him to take the pressure off the government problems by makingsure he Is in the news there and that they all come together to support him?

If it's going to happen I'd actually like to see Mayweather get down to 140 and make this rematch there. I'm sure he could make that weight without too much fuss.

Then there would be no excuses Hatton could use after. If he loses to Mayweather at 147 he can again blame the weight AND remains the Champion at 140 without ever fighting Witter.

Surely Hatton can't do any worse than the first time around? His tactics were awful.

Yep I agree, plus if Mayweather fights DLH at 154 first then that could help make Hatton vs Mayweather 2 at 140 more sellable... i.e. Is Floyd weight drained.

The Oscar and Mosley that fought in their first fight would have both been too much for Floyd, but in fairness to Floyd, he's not as natural at that weight as those two.

I also think Floyd would have had big problems with a giant like Vernon Forrest at 147.

The fact that Oscar ran Floyd close (not so close on my card), shows just how good a fighter he really is, considering that he's past his peak and inactive.

Oscar v Floyd was always a tough fight to call, what about Chavez (circa 88) v Floyd at 140.

What a fight.

not really tough to call. oscar was never going to beat floyd. he did well, yes, and gave some pointers to how floyd could be beaten but i dont think floyd was ever in danger of actually losing that one. it seems that the only person who didnt pick up on oscars example of how to beat floyd was one R.Hatton esq.

I had it a draw mate at the fight and on DVD later. I was one round different to Mr Darke.

Hatton doesn't have the tools Oscar does. It's the jab which kept floyd busy and prevented Floyd from picking and poking at will. Once the jab output declined due probably to fatigue, Floyd was able to pick his spots and control the distance more.

He oscar would have kept the jab up he could have won, something tells that floyd could have stepped up a hear still

Hatton dont really have a jab esp against a bigger man like floyd he was always going to struggle

He told Larry Merchant at the end of the fight that was the reason he lost.

Would this be the biggest fight in British boxing history?
I could really see Ricky pulling it off if it happened over here.
If Floyd Mayweather fought Ricky Hatton 10 times, Floyd would win all 10.

It's nothing to do with the referee, Floyd is just infinitely better than Ricky & I'm a Hatton fan!!!
