Few things:

In regard to keeping his head down in an attempt to secure the rematch with PBF - that's probably the whole point of the 'documentary' - the only way PBF is ever gonna get back into the ring with Hatton is if he knows that (barring DLH III) it's the biggest financial fight out there. Hatton has nothing to offer PBF in the way of a sporting challenge anymore, so if there's any dip in popularity then Hatton is never gonna make the match with PBF. What better way to reinforce that popularity than have a tv show??? Queue no credible opposition whatsoever for Hatton until the PBF fight is either dead in the water or made....

Onto the documentary. My brother was seeing Jenny Dooley for a while (obviously prior her becoming Mrs Hatton!) and from my memory she was pretty boring. What an amazing show this will be. Not only do we get to watch Hatton himself (who fair play knows how to be witty and is a decent lad) but the hangers on also get to make names for themselves. Think it's a real shame that his own mum and dad are getting in on it; always find it a bit disconcerting. I'd prefer to never know Hatton's dad's name... who's Muhammad Ali's father? Or Lennox? That's the way it should be.

I was a big Hatton fan, knew him way back on a fleeting level as his gym was at the end of my street, and was always pretty proud of him. Understood his appeal totally, and have defended him in the Witter saga on here (to a certain extent; I never truly defended him merely said 'let's wait and see') but this tips me over the edge. The tv show is a stinging indictment of his all out cash lust and disregard for boxing status. Not happy one bit, and I wonder how far this show will go to alienating some of his supporters? Inevitably the biggest fans will remain loyal, but there must be plenty like me who are starting to feel a bit shortchanged. So, Jenny is a tiger in bed? takes she take it up the hitmanhatton1?

:D

PBF knows Hatton brings the most money already.

Remember Hattons MUM making out she wanted PBF toget 'hurt'in the fight?

Well, it was good to see how that fight turned out!

The media will hype up Hatton and then crush him!

Chav TV.

I'll take it that asking for a refund on the back of a tv show is borderline ridiculous, but saying that he is more interested in cash than boxing status is evidenced by the tv show.

Jordan and Peter; Kerry bleedin' Katona, and now 'At Home with the Hattons'??? Come on, even the most ardent Hatton fan (and I am a pretty big fan) can't defend that. He should be saying he doesn't want any distractions from fight preparation, not 'it's only a camera crew'. You must take my point about his mum and dad getting involved all the time now, it's a bit of a soap opera already and the last thing I want to see is him away from boxing.

This is the problem with this country, we develop 'celebrities' that are famous for nowt but being famous. If we have a close documentary on his training methods etc that would make for relatively interesting viewing, but if you're really interested in his mum, dad, girlfriend and brother pissing about at home or down the pub then you've got far too much time on your hands. Aren't we getting away from the fact that he's supposed to be a hardened ring warrior, a gladiator. OK if it sells a few tickets then show he is a down to earth person, but coming off the back of a stoppage defeat I want him to be ruthless and dedicated. If Billy Graham is all for a camera crew following Hatton round then he's gone more Hollywood than the rougharse trainer who got Hatton to where he is.

And it's ok saying that, and I guess if it's on I will watch it (can't comment on it if I don't can I?) but as a massive Hatton fan you have to consider the wider implications. He was more than winning the 'mental war' with PBF in the build up to their fight, but by the time the weigh in ame he'd lost it, you could see he had changed even then and then to go and spoil all his own work in the fight (taking Cortez out of the equation) was no surprise. Too hyped up.

It's funny the mentions of Rocky and Clubber Lang above ( ) - but looking at it without the Hatton glasses, doesn't it seem funny how much of a parody it is? Hatton's camp in the build up to his fights are turning into the media circus shown in those films; he needs to get some of his focus back. Can't keep banging on about how he's a normal bloke down the road when he's doing flaming tv shows. I know all the top boxers lose some of the fire in their belly, a la Tyson, Naz etc. Please don't want Hatton to go the same way for the dollar.

I know these views sound a bit extreme, but if I put a watered down version on it'll be of no debate and what's the point in that?

See, the comforting armchair of familiarity.

Maybe the show will open with Hatton, resplendent in tweed, sitting before a log fire uttering the words we have always wanted to hear him say: "hello, and welcome to 'Ricky Hatton's foreign film of the week spot'. This week I shall be looking at the French film 'L'ennui', a tale of the excitement/boredom found in simplicity, as well as an exploration of meaningless obsession featuring a Rubenesque harpy and a Camus style man on the edge of existential crisis."

I'd rather see a 'At home with Shannon's (tearful/pitiful/chav/in on it)mother', at last that way we can keep an eye on the other kids.
Or how about at home with Ricky Hatton as he beats up Shannons mother, I'd rather watch that than the Lazcanno fight

but none of this will distract from his usual training habits.

he's not gonna be off down the local boozing it up to make the documentary better is he.

the boxing is still the main goal for hatton. i just don't see the big issue here i really don't.

OK, do you think Billy Graham will like it? If not then maybe it's not the best of ideas.

I guess in some ways I'm complaining about celeb culture, and a bit disappointed that Hatton is getting involved in it. Don't see why he would want to.

I suppose as a big fan of Hatton's I want boxing to be the only goal for Hatton, not the main goal. And if you insinuate that he has other goals, what are they, and how will a tv show help him achieve them?

Just want to see a top quality boxer box, he had chance to be Britains best ever and it seems to be going into a bit of a circus.

It's like Premiership football. The more you see and hear of the Chairman the more ridiculous the club is getting. In my view the same applies to Hatton; a few years ago he was boxing beautifully, progressing nicely and I never heard a peep out of his mum and dad. Now I see them on tv, calling the shots over tickets, strategies, fight plans etc and they know sod all, and his matchups are being questioned more, his inter-fight conditioning is worse than ever and stamina etc poor. He used to be renowned for being a hard trainer, but as the 'Fatton' joke has crept in he's made it part of his personality.
Fair play for that on one level, but on another it'd have been nice to see him dedicate himself more to fighting all year round. I know the two aren't intrinsically linked but the more I hear of mum dad girlfriend etc the more it disheartens me and makes me think he's lost focus.

hitman_hatton, listen I'm a Hatton fan, I really am. I've defended him where I felt it was necessary, I buy the tickets, etc etc, and I really rate him, but you're right it is an excuse for the Hatton bashers to slag him. Why has he given them this excuse? It's ok saying 'why not' but why?? He should be focussing every thought on how to improve and be the best. Maybe I'm overly romantic.
