Louis-Conn I scorecards
Louis-Conn I scorecards
I see the Williams-Ali thread is now locked.
Woller, did you ever locate the scorecards for the first Louis-Conn fight? I've looked in everything to which I have access, and i can't find anything official.

Yes, but who were the judges and what how did they and the referee each score it. (If memory serves, the Referee was Eddie Joseph.)Martin Sosa Cameron wrote:Please, see

/.the official scoring gives lie to the myths that say "all conn had to do was stay on his feet for the last three rounds and he would have won the fight." actually if he had run the last three rounds without fighting if one judge and referee scored it the way the louis/walcott fight was scored louis would have squeaked out a decision.
am i the only one who points out conn was fighting
an aggressive fight ...in with quick combinations and out...so his "attack" in the thirteenth round wasn't radically different from the earlier rounds he won.
also...conn's legs may have been giving out by then....he took some hard shots to the body in the rounds louis on and even in the rounds that conn himself won.
i've always felt that louis just caught up with him as he eventually would do.
a funny side note....louis' trainer, manny seamon used to chew unlighted cigars when he worked the corner...at the end of the fight and as louis was in his corner, joe said "how many seegars did you swallow, manny?"
regardless of how we scored it, it was a great fight by a great champion and a great gutsy challenger.
one more thing before i finish...i don't remember what round it was but it was when conn was making such a magnificent showing...he walked to his corner and held up his hand as a wave to the crowd....a wonderful gesture of confidence and appreciation of the crowd's cheering him on.

In that fight Conn moved in and out faster, and punched harder than in any fight in his life---against a great fighter 20 pounds heavier than he was.Jaclem wrote:

He didn't suddenly choose to trade in the final round.
He had used up too much of his gas tank and had been worn down, both by his own exertions against a bigger man and by the bumping he had taken, even if he hadn't been caught yet with a perfect shot.
Notice Conn's chin in that final round. He must have been hit with 20 solid shots by Louis before he went down.
He had one more fight before WW II, against Zale (and he actually ran from middleweight Zale for most of the fight).
And that was the end of Conn.
After the years he lost in WW II, a totally shot Conn had his return fight with Louis, and that was it.
Really bad timing for him and his career.
That one night Billy fought one the greatest fights ever.

No, no, never. He read a Jim Trunzo fantasy fight that's all.Goodnight, Irene wrote:You have it in it's entirety!? Where is the complete fight available?elmersalsa wrote:I had it 7 rounds to 3 and 2 even in favor of Conn.
By the 10-point scring system, I had Conn winning 117-113. It was a great fight. No doubt.

And you think YOUR posts are about boxing? Nonsense like "the traitor Eddie Futch was paid off by the Ali industry". That's boxing talk? Fekk man, that is just ridiculous shite spewed out by a filthy old drunken bum.granberry wrote:Why is it that collins NEVER posts on the subject of boxing?
He traverses boxrec posting ONLY snipes at other posters.
What a PATHETIC existence.
Your posts are of a bitter man who has failed to make any mark on life apart from being banned from boxing web sites for racial abuse.
You have nothing to add to this forum apart from freak value.
LOL
.
collins slithers around boxrec with the sole purpose spreading his stench over boxrec.
collins NEVER posts on the subject of boxing.
He always shows up in tandem with his alias, irene.
Recently collins has enlisted low mentality ray and kikibalt to begin his trashing of threads.
Then collins shows up with his further non-boxing tripe.
Collins enlists others to achieve his purpose---the destruction of boxrec.

Answer the question. Why do you hate boxing so much?
